The Museum of History of Science and Technology of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is the center, which aims to educate the general public in the field of nuclear physics, elementary particle physics and the development of public interest in the activities of JINR and basic research in nuclear physics in general.
Our museum was established in 1993 to preserve the history of the Institute in museum exhibits.
The Museum is the member of the Association of scientific and technical museums of the Russian Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
Museum currently occupies four halls: - hall of history, - hall of new projects, - lectorium, - classlab.
The museum exposition in more than 30 models and devices, as well as portraits of the founders of the Institute and illustrative material. In funds of the museum there is more than a thousand items of photo, audio and video materials, a large archive of manuscripts.
In the exhibition hall the museum holds exhibitions on the history of science and local history, timed to significant dates, exhibition of paintings, graphics and applied works of JINR staff members and their families, children's creative teams, as well as exhibitions of nonresident artists, whose life and work are connected with the history of Institute.
An important element in the daily work of the museum are popular science lectures and lectures on the history of JINR for pupils and students, as well as for visitors and foreigners who come to work at JINR and their families. The museum is open as an educational platform for JINR University Center and Dubna International University for Nature, Society and Man.
The museum holds a regular historical and scientific seminar within which a series of lectures "The History of Discoveries - the Authors speak" and "Personalities of scientific Dubna" are organized. These series of lectures are designed to personalize the history and comprehend the contribution of the JINR in the development of world science.
The museum is not confined to a limited exposition premises, and goes to schools. Museum practices active assistance to municipal schools in conducting scientific conferences in physics and history of science. For example, the museum has presented to the school materials related to the anniversary of D. Mendeleev and D. Blokhintsev and helped with the organization of scientific conferences devoted to these outstanding scientists.
